Textile Playground

I love painting and making patterns, but sometimes it can be a bit hard with no real software for the purpose and making them by hand, although a lot of fun, definitely comes with it’s own challenges. Like not being able to go back and change mistakes or ideas as easily.

That is why when I discovered that Ikea has created an online playground for nerdy pattern-lovers as myself, I went a little.. crazy. The evening has disappeared while I’ve been doodling away and I’d thought I’d stop for a minute to share some of the favourite patterns I’ve made so far.

Children’s books – can you DIY?

When I was a child my parents used to read to me a lot, these were moments I really cherished and many of the books they read are still to this day books that I enjoy, for example I love Elsa Beskow’s The Sun Egg! At the preschool where I work I often read to the children and one thing has caught my attention – how many crappy children’s books there are out there! I mean of course there are a lot of good books too, but there are also surprisingly many that, in my eyes, are poorly written and filled with fantasy-killing illustrations. This made me think of the books that were read to me as a child and I had the thought that I might bring some of them to the preschool and read them for the children.

Another idea also saw the light of day as I continued to think about this, as some of you may know I really enjoy both writing and drawing and as I sat there thinking about all the books that I didn’t like, this thought popped up in my head: What if I would write and illustrate a fairytale? What if maybe I could do a little book? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not trying to say that I will go ahead and create some sort of masterpiece, but all this thinking about children’s stories and how much I loved reading them and looking at the beautiful illustrations really made me excited about trying it out myself!

So this past week I’ve been trying to come up with characters and an idea for the storyline to build on. I’ve come up with a few characters, the story however is taking a bit longer.. but that’s alright with me, I’m in no specific rush and essentially I’m doing this project for me. Because it’s something fun and exciting to try out.

Meet my character Théa 🙂

I make tiny little sketches and colour them to get an idea of what I might want the pages to look like

Photos from a trip to Hjo, all those windflowers gave me inspiration to the story..

This is in fact the first inspo I made for my story, it was a quick doodle of my character Théa and a photo I took one day when I was biking 🙂

Anyways. I haven’t gotten very far but I’m enjoying the process of coming up with ideas and even though it’s hard not to come up with too many ideas, it’s also an interesting experience. Now however it is getting very late and I should be off to bed. I might keep you a little bit updated as the story comes along, if it comes along indeed.. 😉

Did any of your parents read to you? What books did you enjoy as a child?

My (Almost) Top Hundred Summer Songs!

So I don’t know if it’s the sun that peeked out yesterday to warm my skin or if it’s the fact that summer is just around the corner (at least so I keep telling myself). Either way I am really longing for real summer with bonfires by the beach and cruising in the car or swimming in lakes and picnics in the tall grass.. And then I got to thinking that I should make a new list on Spotify (my music programme of choice ;)) just filled up with those songs that make me happy and butterfly-ish inside. It is spring after all and within a month (hopefully) summer will have officially arrived 😀 Anyway, I thought I’d compile the songs and post them here too, for those of you who have Spotify you can just click HERE to listen to my awesome new playlist 😉 (Some songs from the list may be missing since I have them stored on my local files).

Since I am not very good with choosing (I tend to choose a lot more then I initially may have intended) I decided to do a “My Top Hundred Summer Songs list”. There was only one problem.. I ran out of paper.. so to speak. I also forgot four of the songs from my spotify list, which wouldn’t have fit even if I had remembered them, but still. I hope you shall forgive me 😉 So without further ado, here is My (Almost) Top Hundred Summer Songs! (90 in the picture, 94 on spotify, to be exact ;))

CLICK the picture for larger image! 🙂

Ahh well, it is getting late and I should head to bed aka. read my book. I hope you enjoy my list as much as I do and if you don’t have Spotify you should get it 😛 And if you don’t wanna get it then I guess you can just read the list and add whatever song you like to whatever you use for music listening! 😀

I’ve got the jimjams for cherries

Yeah. It’s true. I love cherries. On clothes, to eat, to look at – however I hate cherry candy. Blergh! Anyway, that was not what I was going to talk about. What I was going to say is that I’ve started to look for bikinis/swimsuits for the oncoming summer (yes, I know there’s still at least four months left until we Swedes will be crowding the beaches) because I feel like I want to have that sorted out well before summer has arrived.

I hate running around like a maniac in the stores looking for something I like, most of them are ugly/boring and the ones that are actually nice – everyone else has already been thinking the same. And excuse me for not wanting to look like a zillion other blondes that will adorn our beaches, but I don’t.

So – I’ve been surfing around a little looking for swimwear. I wanted it to be something that, the instance I saw it, would feel like it was made for me. I have a weakness for 50’s clothing in general but I really love the kind of swimwear they used to wear back then. And I actually found some p-retty gorgeous ones! They are a bit pricey though… but I am thinking that maybe it could be worth it? If it is something that I will use for years to come? Instead of buying ten different ones (that’ll amount to more than this price) and not be happy with any of them.

Ghahh.. drool! And I am not talking about that pin-up model.

I love high waisted bikinis, however I can’t help feeling that the piercing is ruining the impression. Haha 😛

I love the cherry print, but this polkadot one seems to have a higher waist – which is what I’m looking for in a two-piece.

The model sure makes a difference in first impressions.. but I still love the cherry swimsuit more!

All of these swimsuits are almost 60£ each… is it offensive to spend 120£ on swimwear..? Hahahahh xD ‘Cause I want the polkadot bikini and the cherry swimsuit. *starts counting on my fingers*

Click the pictures if you want to visit the website.

What do you think? Would you ever consider buying swimwear for such a price? Or is ‘function’ and price more important to you? And you guys – do you even consider what swimwear you’ll wear in the summer? I have no idea really, I’m sure it differs though like everything else, some may care and some may not, I suppose. But what do you think?

Don’t get eaten by sharks,

Dear Santuh Klaws (dat I do not believe in)

… would you be so kind and give me one of these libraries?? Preferably the first one. 🙂

Yup. That’s right. I want the library from Beauty and the Beast. It is the-most-amazing-library EVER.

I’m not sure HOW this would fit into my current little bedroom, but.. I will make it fit.

And if I cannot have any of the ones above I suppose on of these would suffice.. *sigh*

This is more my dream bedroom than dream library, but I can always expand it later.. 😀

Have I ever perchance told you that I love books?? 😉

Have a splendid day,
